The journey from Darkot to Darkot Pass (4575m) begins along the lateral moraine of the glacier, gradually descending onto the broad, flat surface of the Darkot Glacier. The route weaves through crevasses and glacial streams, offering a relatively manageable 3–4 hour trek towards Chikar in the Yarkhun Valley. Surrounding you on all sides are towering granite peaks, their jagged silhouettes interrupted by icy glaciers flowing between them. A prominent glaciated ridge, rising roughly 200 meters, separates the trail from the Zindikharam Glacier. From here, it’s possible to hike up towards Lalay Rabat — a remote point nestled at the top of the Boroghil region. The descent on the Darkot side of the pass is considerably steeper. In the early morning hours, the glacier becomes wet and treacherously slick, making crampons highly advisable for all trekkers. As you approach the glacier, keep to the right side. Upon reaching the first bowl just below the snout, cross over to the left bank. Here, a well-constructed trail emerges, zigzagging sharply down to the base of the Yarkhun Valley.
