Masherbrum Peak Expedition Overview
Masherbrum, located in the Ghanche District of Gilgit-Baltistan, stands proudly among the giants of the
Karakoram. Ranking as the 22nd highest mountain globally and the 9th tallest in Pakistan, this striking peak
is part of a legendary range that includes iconic summits like K2, Gasherbrum I & II, and Broad Peak.
Renowned for its beauty and challenge, Masherbrum is one of the most difficult mountains to scale. Unlike
other peaks with established trekking trails, Masherbrum offers no easy routes. To date, only four successful
summits have been recorded, and the southeast face has seen just one ascent—achieved in 1981. Numerous
expeditions, both international and local, have faced harsh conditions and natural hazards such as ice
avalanches, making this climb a true test of endurance and skill.
Our journey begins with a trek to Masherbrum Base Camp, nestled near the remote outpost of Hushe. Here, we
spend two days acclimatizing and taking in the rugged scenery. The next stage leads us into the Sarakhsa
Valley, where spectacular views of K6, K7, and Chogolisa await.
Along the way, you’ll explore the breathtaking Gondogoro Valley, with an optional climb to the summit of
Gondogoro Peak. The trek culminates at the famous Gondogoro La Pass, offering awe-inspiring panoramas of some
of the world’s highest and most magnificent mountains.
For peaks under 6400 meters, climbers are exempt from paying royalty fees—making this region a climber’s
paradise for high-altitude exploration.
