Located about 32 kilometers southwest of Skardu, the Deosai Plateau is a breathtaking highland accessible via Satpara Lake. With an average elevation of 3,500 meters (11,660 feet), this vast plateau spans roughly 70 kilometers and serves as a natural link between Baltistan and the Astore Valley. Deosai is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is particularly notable as a sanctuary for the endangered Himalayan Brown Bear. Now designated as a national park, the area plays a vital role in protecting and preserving its unique wildlife. For much of the year, Deosai remains blanketed in snow. But when spring arrives, the landscape transforms into a sea of lush green meadows adorned with countless wildflowers, crisscrossed by sparkling streams, all set against the majestic backdrop of snow-capped mountains.
