Paju Peak Expedition Overview
Paju Peak is a remarkable mountain nestled within the heart of the Karakoram range. Compared to many other
peaks in the region, it offers a relatively easier climb, making it an excellent choice for aspiring
mountaineers. Despite its accessibility, only a few expedition teams have attempted to summit it, keeping its
routes less crowded and more pristine.
The mountain gets its name from the nearby Paju campsite, which serves as its base camp. The word "Paju" comes
from the local Balti language and means "salt"—a reference to the naturally salty terrain found in the area.
This campsite plays a vital role during the trekking season, acting as a major resting point for teams both
ascending and descending the route. During the summer months, it becomes a bustling hub for trekkers and
climbers alike.
The Paju Peak Expedition is not only more approachable in terms of difficulty but also more affordable when
compared to the higher 8000-meter giants in the Karakoram. For those seeking a unique, budget-friendly, and
scenic alpine experience, Paju Peak is an ideal choice.
