Passu Sar Peak Expedition Overview
Passu Sar is a prominent mountain located in the Batura Muztagh, a subrange of the Karakoram in the Hunza
District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It represents the highest point of the Passu massif, which also
includes peaks such as Passu Diar (also referred to as Passu East or Pasu II). The mountain is situated along
the main ridge of the Batura Muztagh, approximately 7 kilometers (4 miles) to the east of Batura Sar.
There is some uncertainty regarding the date of the first successful ascent of Passu Sar. One account
attributes the first climb to a German team—Max Wallner, Dirk Naumann, Ralf Lehmann, and Volker Wurnig—on
August 7, 1994. However, an alternative report suggests that a Japanese-Pakistani expedition may have summited
the peak as early as 1978.
