Gasherbrum I Peak Expedition Overview
Gasherbrum I stands as the 11th tallest peak globally and is situated in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region.
It forms part of the Gasherbrum massif within the Karakoram range of the Himalayas. This cluster of peaks lies
at the northeastern end of the Baltoro Glacier, which stretches approximately 36 miles. Among these giants,
Gasherbrum I is considered more difficult to climb than its neighbor Gasherbrum II, which itself is the 13th
highest mountain, reaching 8,035 meters (26,362 feet). Both Gasherbrum I and II are among the most remote
8,000-meter peaks in the world.
The journey to Gasherbrum I’s base camp begins from Skardu, passing through the picturesque Shigar Valley and
the vast Baltoro Glacier. After enjoying the stunning landscapes along the way, climbers arrive at the base
camp to prepare for the ascent. The climbing season typically runs from June through August.
